CALL FOR DETAILS
Day One: Arrive at Letterkenny
Fly to Belfast, meet your Tour Manager and transfer to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you'll be able to spend the rest of the day exploring the town of Letterkenny or relaxing in a local pub or cafe.
Day Two: Around Donegal
Today we'll head to Donegal, where the town's history is reflected in a Jacobean castle and ancient marketplace, the 'Diamond'. Feel free to head out and about yourself, or enjoy an entertaining 'pay on arrival' 70-minute waterbus trip around Donegal Bay, before we return to the hotel.
Day Three: Giant's Causeway and Dunluce Castle
This morning we'll travel to County Antrim's Atlantic coast of for a visit to the Giant's Causeway. Long associated with legendary Irish hero Finn McCool, its basalt columns, which rise like stepping stones from the sea, were formed after a volcanic eruption 60 million years ago. Take the short minibus trip from the visitor centre to the Causeway, or walk the mile or so along the cliff path to take in the views.
After time for lunch (payable locally), we'll continue to Dunluce Castle where photo opportunities abound. Rising dramatically from the rocks above the sea and separated from the mainland by a deep chasm, the ruins of this medieval stronghold are among the most extensive in Ireland.
Day Four: Inishowen Peninsula
The Inishowen Peninsula is not just a beautiful place, it's also home to Ireland's most northerly point, Malin Head, which you'll visit after passing through the remote peninsula town of Carndonagh. You'll also spend some time at the fascinating Doagh Isle Famine Village, where 19th-century Irish life is recreated. We'll return to Letterkenny in the evening.
Day Five: Glenveagh National Park and Glenveagh castle
Today you'll be able to take in the contrasting scenery of rugged, remote Glenveagh National Park and Glenveagh Castle, in its peaceful setting overlooking Lough Veagh. Enjoy an intriguing guided tour of the historic castle, then explore its surrounding gardens at your leisure.
Afterwards, we'll head to the coast, via Mount Errigal and through Dunlewy village to Bunbeg where you can take a walk along the sandy beach. Then it's up and around the Bloody Foreland (named for the red hue of the rocks at sunset), to the little village of Gortahawk and back to Letterkenny.
Day Six: Travel to Belfast and return home
Transfer back to Belfast for your flight home, taking with you some great pictures, some wonderful memories and a host of stories to tell.
