Māori are the indigenous Polynesian people of New Zealand and their language, culture, and history:
The Māori language is part of the Austronesian language family and is related to Cook Islands Māori, Tahitian, and Tuamotuan.
Māori culture, or Māoritanga, is a distinctive part of New Zealand culture that includes customs, beliefs, and practices. It originated from Eastern Polynesian culture and is influenced by four cultural eras.
The Māori people arrived in New Zealand in waves of canoe voyages between 1320 and 1350. They named the land Aotearoa, which means "the land of the long white cloud". In 1840, the Treaty of Waitangi was signed between Māori chiefs and the British crown, which blended Māori culture with colonial influences.
In 2013, the Māori population was 598,605, making up 14.9% of New Zealand's total population. Most Māori live in the North Island, particularly around Auckland, the Bay of Plenty, and Waikato.
Next it was a tour of the HOBBITON Movie Set in Hinuera before heading for a lunch stop at one on the coolest McDonald's in the world in Taupo.
The owner of the MCDONALD'S STORE IN TAUPO, New Zealand bought a disused DC-3 plane that has been sitting next to their store for over 20 years. The plane was refurbished and repainted, but most of it has been left in its original state, including its propellers and cockpit. The space can comfortably fit 20 hungry patrons at 10 small tables!
TAUPO was created nearly two thousand years ago by a volcanic eruption so big it darkened the skies in Europe and China. Spending a full day at Taupo, Alice visited HUKA FALLS and did the HUKA JET RIDE before a more leisurely SUNSET DINNER CRUISE in the evening.
Next stop was to see the most famous mountain in New Zealand.
The mountain used to film Mount Doom (the volcano in Lord of the Rings) is actually called Mt Ngauruhoe ('naa-oo-roo-hway'). It's located in the Tongariro National Park in New Zealand, a dual UNESCO world heritage site
